CRESSELLY CC player Tom Murphy has been awarded the Most Promising Glamorgan Cricket Academy Player of 2015 (The Alan Lang Cup).

The 16-year-old, who is set to join Ammanford CC next season, received the honour on Monday night at the annual Glamorgan CC presentation in the Tower Hotel, Swansea.

He was presented the award by Richard Almond, Academy Performance coach.

Tom, of Greenhill School, made his Glamorgan 2nd XI debut against Gloucestershire 2nds last season, and took 24 wickets for Wales under 17s, at an average of 22.

He regularly attends academy training in Cardiff, and told Telegraph Sport: “I’m aiming to get more second team games next season to help me develop, and it will be my last year with Wales 17s as well.

“I’m really pleased to have won the award, and it was nice to have it on the same event that the first XI, second XI, and coaches awards were handed out.”

Also present was Tom’s brother Jack, who is on the playing staff with Glamorgan and who himself won the Academy Player of the Year in 2013.

The pair said they wanted to thank Mr Roberts Wedding and Suite Hire for supplying them with suits to wear for the evening.
