Neyland (161 for 6) drew with Haverfordwest (220 for 7)

HAVERFORDWEST secured the title of Pembrokeshire’s cricketing champions for 2015 as they had the better of the draw over Neyland, who had won the title for the previous two seasons but with four regulars out came nowhere near preventing The Town taking the silverware for the first time since 2008.

Put in to bat, Haverfordwest lost Ben Field and Nitin Mathias (21) relatively cheaply but then Simon Holliday and skipper Danny Potter rallied well in a partnership of 101 where both played some terrific boundary shots. Holliday sped to 90 with 11 fours and four sixes and looked a certainty for three figures when he miss-hit a ball from Geraint Rees to Sean Hannon at long-on.

Potter looked back to his best form with some imperious drives in his 58 (ten boundaries) and a late 25 not out from Nigel Delaney took The Town to 200 for 7 as Rees (3 for 38), Patrick Bellerby (1 for 24) and Nick Koomen (1 for 27) were the Neyland wicket takers.

Neyland needed a big score from a couple of batsmen bust had to settle for steady knocks by Nick Koomen (30), Patrick Bellerby (41) and Nathan Banner (25) as off-spinner Clive Tucker tormented them with his excellent 4 for 32 analysis.

Holliday (1 for 59) and Adam James (1 for 42) gave support and some good fielding kept Neyland under pressure before the end of the match saw Haverfordwest skipper Danny Potter deservedly receive the James Morris Memorial Trophy from Tony Scourfield, the chairman of the Pembroke County Cricket Club.

Cresselly win but have to settle for the runners-up medals

Cresselly (179 for 4) beat Johnston (176 all out) by 6 wickets

CRESSELLY played well to beat Johnston in their final match of the season but had to settle for second spot in the championship as Haverfordwest had the better of the draw at Neyland.

Johnston’s big hitters were clearly in a hurry because Dan Sutton, Mikey Jones, Lee Summons and Kevin Roberts belted ten sixes, most of them off Ryan Lewis, but the canny slow bowler held his nerve to finish with a for 91 haul, whilst at the other end his slow-bowling partner Mike Shaw was miserly in his 4 for 22 haul.

Sutton (38) and Jones (39) gave Johnston a good start and Summons slammed five sixes, three in a row, in his rapid-fire 35 before Roberts added late impetus with three maximums in his 24.

But Cresselly are a superb batting side at present and they got off to an ideal start with a stand of 71 between Adam Chandler and Matthew Morgan before the latter was shifted for 43 (nine fours and a six). Then Simon Cole chipped in with 40 as he helped Chandler add 71 and Cresselly reached their target for the loss of only four wickets as Chandler ended on 75 not out (seven fours and three sixes).

Lee Summons (2 for 25) was joined by his father John (1 for 4) and Jason Davies (1 for 54) as the Johnston wicket takers but Cresselly needed fewer than 29 overs to ease home with plenty in hand.

Sefton steers Carew to speedy success

Llangwm (138 all out) lost to Carew (139 for 1) by 9 wickets

IAN Sefton steered Carew to an easy victory at Pill Parks in a match where both teams scored quickly but Llangwm found themselves getting out at key times as they were dismissed for 138 runs in only 21.3 overs.

Then Sefton raced to 86 in only 54 deliveries before he was run out within sight of the winning post – and Carew reached their target for only his wicket in only 16.4 overs!

Put in to bat by Carew skipper Rhys Davies, Llangwm had Chris Thomas as top scorer with 35 (three fours and four sixes), supported by Phil Llewellyn (17), Luke Brock (three sixes in his 29) and James Lewis (17) – but after Rhys Davies (1 for 14) and Neil Gregory (1 for 17) had made early inroads the home batsmen never really settled against Ceri Brace (3 for 37), Tom Davies (2 for 18) and Harry Cook (1 for 32).

Sefton was joined by Ceri Brace in a new opening partnership for Carew and they put on 114 before Sefton looked for a single and was run out with 11 fours and three sixes to his name. Brace provided the perfect foil and accelerated to 49 not out, with five fours and a six as he steered his team home in style – and Llangwm face the ‘dreaded drop’ into Division Two at the end of what has been a disappointing season for them.#

Tish finish season in style

Whitland (167 all out) lost to St Ishmaels (169 for 6) by 4 wickets

ST Ishmaels saved their final match to celebrate one of their better performances of the season as they limited Whitland to 167 all out and then batted well to finish with wickets and overs to spare.

Iestyn Scourfield led the Whitland pre-tea batting with an unbeaten 64 (six fours and three sixes), supported by Paul Davies (24), Kevin Pearce (36), Dylan Blain (10) and Geraint Jones (17) but they were dismissed for 167 all out from 33.4 of their 35 overs in a match reduced because of wet weather.

Dean John (4 for 62), Andrew Pawlett (3 for 20), Andrew Williams (1 for 52) and Brennan Devonald (1 for 28) claimed the Tish wickets and then Williams also led their batting with 53 runs (seven fours and two sixes).

He found willing support from teenager Dan Richards (30) and Dan Howells (three fours and four big sixes in his 56), plus 14 from Kevin Bowen before Steve Hartley took Tish home with 12 not out.

Mark Lee (1 for 18), Jonathan Thomas (1 for 39), Matthew Davies (3 for 51) and Blain (1 for 17) claimed wickets for Whitland but Tish reached their target in a hard-hitting 31.1 overs!

Davies delivers a ton as Llanrhian celebrate

Lawrenny (171 all out) lost to Llanrhian (173 for 1) by 9 wickets

GARETH Davies pulled out his full array of strokes as the Llanrhian stroke-maker scored a splendid undefeated century that took them to victory in a high-scoring tussle at Lawrenny and then helped his side celebrate retaining their top-echelon status when news filtered through of Cresselly Seconds coming second in Division Two so that only Llangwm get relegated.

Leading the way for Lawrenny before tea were James Buckle (49, including seven fours and two sixes), Andrew Cole (25), Ian Jenkins (24) and Phil Cole (28) as Jack Jones (4 for 29) and Luke Jones (3 for 18) were joined by Dom Wright (2 for 15) as the Llanrhian wicket-takers.

Ben Jones then joined Davies in an opening partnership of 93 before he was caught by keeper James Buckle off Simon Cole for 51 (six boundaries) – but then Jack Jones (21 not out) shared an unbroken stand of 80 with Davies, who stroked nine fours and three sixes en route to a classy 101 not out that certainly gave Llanrhian a terrific end to a season of ups and downs that sees them stay up when it mattered!

Umpires: Huw Davies & Trefor Evans.

Scorers: Malcolm Thomas (Lawrenny).
