THE Club Captain held a very successful Charity Day in aid of The Liver Foundation and Prostate Cancer UK last Friday. A very big thank you to all the sponsors of the day, the teams that took part and everyone who made a donation, it is very greatly appreciated.

On Saturday and Sunday the Club held the Men’s Club Championship. On Saturday, the weather was hot and breezy, with 73 players taking part. There was some excellent scoring, and leading after the first day was Shaun Dyson with a gross score of 72, followed by Emlyn Williams with 73 and Simon Nicholas with 74. The nett leaders were K. Walters with 66, M. Boulton with 68 and Jake Lewis with 68. There were only 5 shots between 9th place and Shaun Dyson, so Sunday was going to be an exciting day.

On Sunday, 55 players took part with heavy rain and thunderstorms forecast they still decided to go ahead. It was an 11am start and it looked like the rain was on its way! By noon it was raining heavily, but there were blue skies in the distance! By the time the leaders teed off it was bright sunshine. There was a large gathering on the 18th green waiting for the last players to complete the course.

After the two days, Emlyn Williams was crowned Club Champion.

Well done to them and everyone who took part. The weekend showed the good spirit of all the Club Members. A very big thank you to Mr Steve Brown, who was the Officer in Statue, he showed good spirit despite the heavy rain on Sunday morning. After the presentation by the Club Captain Gwyn French, there was a flop shot competition on the 18th green with a good crowd taking part which was won by Brandon Cooper and the Putting competition was won by N. Day.

The Club Captain also thanked Dai and Matthew Humphreys for all their hard work in organising the scoreboards and cards.

Next Saturday is the July Monthly Medal, and the following Saturday July 18 is Captain’s Day.

Ladies

LAST Tuesday 30, nine ladies played in the weekly ladies Stableford competition. The winner was Enid de Wolf with 38 points and the runner up was Ruth Morgan with 36 points. There were no twos recorded so the money rolls over into the next game. The ladies are reminded that their monthly committee meeting will take place on Monday, July 13 at 6.30pm. It's also Gwyn French's Captain's Day on Saturday, June 18 and the ladies have been invited to play, anyone wishing to play can put their name down on the list which is up in the Ladies’ Changing Room.

Seniors

LAST Thursday, the seniors section played a medal competition for the J & B Putter (nett) and the John Skelhorn Snr Gross Trophy (sponsored by John Skelhorn jnr the competition was also a qualifier for Colin Reynolds points.

Winning both trophies was Brian Keen with a gross 82 nett, 64 winning the gross competition, on the back six score from Owain Picton.

In the Colin Reynolds salvers after seven competitions Brian Keen goes to the top of the leader board with 13 points with Tony Davey moving into joint third position with 10 points; top positions of the leader board.

In the twos competition the kitty was shared by the following three players with Brian Keen picking up two shares;

CSS 68

As it was a counting competition players who did not play to their handicap received .1 back. Congratulations to Brian Keen; Mike Ballentine; Peter Taylor and Richard Brock who all had their handicaps reduced by one shot; Brian 18 to 17; Mike Ballentine 18 to 17; Peter 17 to 16; with Peter Brock and Geoff Davies all going in the opposite direction Peter from 21 to 22 and Geoff 19 to 20.

The presentation was carried out by seniors captain Brian Mitchell.

On Tuesday, June 13 the senior section played Priskilly Forest in their friendly home match; the teams play each other once a year; home one year and away the following year. On the warmest day of the year Priskilly took six pairs to Milford which was matched by the Milford team; after some close matches the home team won by six matches to none. The Priskilly Captain thanked the Milford team for their hospitality; for the food and service at the bar and was very complimentary of the condition of the course which was excellent.

South Wales Seniors Classic Claret Jug

Last Wednesday, the seniors played host to the regional four ball better ball competition on behalf of the South Wales Senior Classic for the Claret Jug. With a field of 33 pairs taking part with the top six pairs qualifying for the finals which will be held Tuesday, August 4 at Cradoc Golf Club. With the course in excellent condition which was enjoyed by all players taking part which led to some excellent scores being returned.
