Scarlets West (Pembrokeshire) Youth League.

St Davids 12-65 Milford Haven.

A HAT trick from Milford skipper Sam Dolling led his side to an early Saturday morning win at St Davids.

The Young Mariners scored 11 tries in all, although the Saints enjoyed spells of pressure themselves and crossed twice through centre Ben Joyce.

Indeed, it was the home side who had the first opportunity to put points on board when outside half Matty Mcloed pulled a penalty chance wide in the swirling wind.

But the visitors then enjoyed a spell of dominance and took the lead when flanker Ben Groves powered over in the corner.

No 8 Dolling then burst through several tackles for another unconverted try, and moments later added his second in similar fashion. This time outside half James Trueman converted to open up a 0-17 lead.

A quickly taken Trueman tap penalty then set up prop Mike Carew to drive over from close range for the Young Mariners’ fourth score.

But the Saints sparked into life midway through the first period, and grabbed a try of their own when Joyce jinked his way under the posts, and Mcleod added the extras.

Mcleod then made a clean break in midfield but lacked support at the vital time – but Milford got back in the ascendancy when scrum half Dan McClelland sniped over after a spell of pressure. Trueman converted.

And Alan McClelland’s side struck once more before the break, when centre Dan Jenkins burst through some weak tackling to make it 7-34 at the break.

The home side had the better of the exchanges in the second half, and after Mcleod struck the post with a penalty, Aaron Foster set up Joyce for his second try in the corner.

But the final quarter was one way traffic as the Young Mariners cut loose – and full back Dan Wonnacott capitalised on a loose kick in midfield to slice through and score.

Centre Jenkins then completed a brace when he hacked on and won the race to the touchdown - and then his namesake and centre partner, Ben, cut through to score, and Trueman converted.

The No 10 then added the extras to his own try after he rounded off some slick handling to dart under the posts - before skipper Dolling completed his treble with a powerful run from half way.

Trueman again converted to complete a clinical display from the Young Mariners.

In the two other youth league games to be played this weekend, Whitland won a high scoring game 75-21 at home to Fishguard, while Haverfordwest eased to a 43-17 home success against Cardigan.
