July Monthly Medal

THE July Monthly Medal was sponsored by Steve Arnold of Port Engineering Steve has been a regular supporter of the monthly medal over the years. His continued support is much valued.

The presentation was carried out on behalf of Port Engineering by Andrew Arnold who was also among the prize winners. Although there were some late withdrawals because of the damp conditions the weather didn't put a dampener on the scoring.

Early starter Andrew Miles and experienced Gareth Fairburn both returned highly impressive scores of 66 nett with Andrew sneaking first place on count back.

This was also a qualifying competition for the Welsh Individual Handicap Championship to be held at Llandrindod Wells in September, Gareth and Andrew will now have their results submitted for qualification for the 0-12 and 13-28 categories respectively.

On another day the returns of 67 nett made by Andrew Arnold and Tristan Carlson might well have been good enough to win, but their fine scores only brought them 3rd and 4th places, Chris Oliver was in 5th place with a good 68 nett showing a welcome return to form.

The prize for the best gross went to Gareth Fairburn with a splendid one under gross 70. The high scoring meant that the standard scratch was 70 on the day.

There were 11 twos worth £6 each as follows:- Nathan Day x2, Jimmy Howells, Dean Matthews, John Roberts, Paul Thomas, Jeff Button, Alan Dennison, Jack Jenkins, Emlyn Williams and Andrew Windsor.

The impressive scoring meant Dai Humphreys had a field day with the handicaps. His victims were: - Liam Eva 3-2, Tony Hughes 27-26, Andrew Miles 25-24, Chris Oliver 14-13 and Stuart Owen 28-27.

The current standings in the Brian Bebb Order of Merit are as follows:-
