A FOOD bank is asking people to donate £3 - roughly the cost of an ice cream - to help feed struggling families this summer.

Pembrokeshire Action To Combat Hardship (PATCH) is appealing for extra funds to enable the charity to support those who need it most.

"We all love the summer holidays, when the weather is lovely and we can tuck into an ice cream or two at the beach," said PATCH co-ordinator Tracy Olin.

"But what we don't realise is that there are many Pembrokeshire families who cannot afford to eat.

"Summer is the hardest time of year for many families.

"Parents are going without to ensure that their kids get to eat, so it's very likely that you will pass someone who has not eaten as you go about your day.

"Donating online takes just a few minutes, and yet could make sure that a family has a hot meal tonight and a much better summer."

The charity - which has bases in Milford Haven, Haverfordwest, Pembroke Dock and Saundersfoot - supplies tinned goods such as spaghetti, meat meals, baked beans, vegetables and custard, along with pasta, noodles, long-life milk and rice.

he charity also gives out clothing and household essentials such as bedding, toasters, microwaves, cutlery and kettles.

To give a regular or one-off donation, visit virginmoneygiving.com and search 'Pembrokeshire Action' or follow the link on the charity's Facebook page.

PATCH is also hosting a cream tea fundraiser to bolster its funds this Friday, August 26.

Scones, jam and cream and hot drinks will be on offer at Suite 13 Cedar Court (near the library) in Milford Haven.

The event is being supported by Tesco and Marks and Spencer.
