JUNIOR seafarers in Milford Haven are trying to raise £10,000 to buy a new minibus.

Milford Haven Sea Cadet unit's last minibus was 12 years old, and was scrapped in August 2015, after repeated breakdowns.

The loss of transport has impacted on local cadets, making it harder for them to take part in training events and competitions outside the county.

“We have existed in Milford Haven since 1942 and through this time have trained, development and mentored hundreds of Cadets,” said Commanding Officer William Elliott.

“Without being able to access a wide array of training across Wales and the UK as a whole, the full Cadet experience becomes watered down and they don't get the most of it.

“A new minibus will ensure that we continue to meet this for the good of our young people.”

So far, the fundraising effort has clocked up £2,560, but there is still a long way to go to reach their target, and get back on the road.

The Cadets provides nautical experiences to young people through adventure and fun, with the aim of helping them become develop their potential, and improve their prospects.

The unit is made up of three sections: Sea Cadets (aged 12 to 18 years of age), Junior Sea Cadets (10 to 12 years of age) and Royal Marines Cadets (aged 13 to 18 years of age).
