A MILFORD Haven headteacher enjoyed her last ever ‘last day of term’ on Friday, as she retires after 27 years.

After almost three decades at the Meads School, nine of them as head teacher, Liz Davies will hand over the reins to acting headteacher Sonja Groves, who makes the move from Milford Haven Junior School.

Chairman of governors at the school, Father Harri Williams, paid tribute to a ‘passionate and inspirational’ head teacher.

“Miss Davies’ commitment to our school and indeed to the generations of children who have passed through our school, has been unfaltering,” said Father Harri.

“She has for the past 27 years been a loyal, faithful and diligent worker within education in Milford Haven.”

He said the responsibility of leading a school the size of the Meads could never be underestimated.

“There are no quiet days, there are no days to put your feet up and enjoy a cup of coffee - our school is not like that - nut even if it was, Liz would never have rested,” he said.

“She has striven tirelessly during her leadership of our school to ensure that every child achieves their full potential.

“She has worked to ensure that, despite the challenges each child may face at home, the Meads is a place where they can thrive and learn.

“Throughout her service to our school she has displayed such passion, not only for the children, but also for the community from which they come.

“Miss Davies has been a great teacher and a great headteacher because not only has she believed in our school, in our community and each and every one of the children, but because she has inspired governors and colleagues to believe the same.

“We shall miss you, and wish you every happiness in your retirement.

“Thank you for what you have done for Milford Haven, for the Meads, and for the children of our school.”
