A company has been lined up to sell-off the Pembrokeshire Adventure Centre in Pembroke Dock.

The County Council decided to put the watersports centre on the market at the beginning of the year.

It had been run by the Princes Trust since 2006 and its closure in January resulted in 15 job losses.

The centre is extensively fitted and purpose-built, located on the outskirts of the town.

It includes a modern water sports building with associated teaching block and equipment store, together with residential accommodation blocks, sports court facility, climbing wall and woodland area.

It provided a range of adventure activities like power boating, canoeing and sailing and a multi level climbing wall. It also helped disadvantaged young people get into training, education and employment.

The trust said that despite their best efforts the centre had become too expensive to run.

The building is owned by the county council, as well as adjacent woodland and a redundant fish farm.

The adjacent car park, slipway and land is owned by Crown Estates but has been leased to the council on a 100 year lease, which will expire in 2094.

Commercial property adviser Bilfinger GVA has been instructed on behalf of Pembrokeshire County Council to market Pembrokeshire Watersports Centre.

The site is being offered with potential for existing use or as a redevelopment opportunity, subject to planning.

Tom Merrifield, of Bilfinger GVA in Cardiff, said: “Pembrokeshire has a strong reputation as an extremely popular tourist destination with stunning coastal scenery and award winning beaches. It is home to Pembrokeshire Coastal National Park, the UK’s only Coastal National Park. As a result this opportunity is unique both in terms of the location and the benefits it can offer to an operator, meaning they can trade with almost immediate effect.”
