CCTV, neighbourhood disputes and the number of bobbies on the beat were among the issues raised by the people of Milford Haven during a visit from the Police and Crime Commissioner last week.

Chris Salmon’s visit – part of his ‘Your Voice’ tour, saw him host a three-hour surgery, meeting local people and groups, as well as a special session with the town council.

Mr Salmon said the topics local people wanted to discuss ranged from the future of publicly-funded CCTV to the possible closure of some youth centres, as well as issues such as neighbourhood disputes.

He also met with local campaigner Gareth Bromhall, who is fighting to get a controversial ‘Mosquito’ anti-loitering device removed from outside Milford Haven Library.

“He seemed to genuinely take our concerns seriously,” said Gareth. “It was very positive.”

Gareth said he hoped Mr Salmon would now continue to work with campaigners to liaise with library site owners the Port of Milford Haven, and local police officers.

Mr Salmon also visited Milford Haven School, where he was grilled by members of the school council, and talked with staff and friends of charity Milford Youth Matters at Buddies, the Milford Haven Youth Centre cafe.

“I was encouraged by the efforts being made by youth workers to help local young people,” he said.

He also visited Pembroke Dock to see the work of VideoMajic TV.

The Commissioner oversees an annual Dyfed-Powys policing fund of around £100m. As the elected voice of the public, it is his job to make the police answerable to the communities they serve.

Mr Salmon is asking where the public would like to see him next year. To let him know, phone 01267 226440, email opcc@dyfed-powys.pnn.police.uk or tweet @DPOPCC with #YourVoice2015.
